Sequencing Center DNA Sequencing Services
Applied BioSystems 3730 DNA Analyzer

The Center provides DNA sequencing as a full-service or a do-it-yourself facility for the Department of Biology at the University of Iowa. We use the Big Dye version 3.1 Terminator Chemistry.

We are generating quality reads of 600-700bp. For full service users this makes costs as low as 1.8 cents a base pair.

Full Service Sequencing
The center will perform the sequencing:
  • Cost: $8/rxn

  • Submit templates Monday and Wednesday afternoons
    (4:00 pm)

  • Reactions will be run the following day and data will be ready for downloading Wednesday and Friday mornings

  • Bring templates to 101 BB (-20 freezer) in 0.5 ml tube

Do-It-Yourself Sequencing
The user will supply their own:
  • Reaction Components (Big Dye)

  • Perform Sequencing reaction

  • Clean-Up reaction

  • Run sequences on machine (after training)
